Adolescent Project
The adolescent project was a research and writing task assigned in order for use to better understand the biology and social programming that goes into the day to day life of a teenager in america. We studied the bio chemistry and the physical biology behind the teenage mind and body. We produced an infographic displaying some form of quantifiable theory or principle about the adolescent process. We also studied the moral development of a adolescent and created interview inspired essays regarding the development of the morality of one specific adult from out life. We also took and artistic photograph of the individual, one inspired by their experience and how it shaped them. Finally we presented this information at a public forum exhibition to the general public and conducted a study of their own experience.

Adolescence Essay
Adolescence is an important time in any persons life, one imperative in the growth and development required to transition from a child to a functioning adult. The physical and psychological changes allowing for new and previously unknown activities and outlooks. Furthermore the increased responsibilities and rights granted to someone as they enter their adolescence, can be a major impact on the results later in their life. Decisions made and unmade result in long reaching and longer lasting impacts. Morality and the decisions you make therein change as one leaves behind their dependencies on their parents and form their own ideals, independency being propelled froth through biological desire and general societal pressure. Adolescence is a period of great growth and a veritable crossroads in an individual's life where they design the next decades of their existence, independence comes into conflict with family and duty, friend groups alter and shift. Adolescence is an interesting time between the simple years of childhood and the tangled webs of maturity. One experience with this concept was held by Amy Glazer Bourdon, born in the lake-side hills of northern Michigan during the height of the cold war in a small and semi-isolated mountain town. Generously took the time to share her experience with striking out on her own in a time and racial tolerance, and her outlook on the ideals of the times past and those to come.
During the late 60’s Northern Michigan was a cultural mixing ground of many different people of many different variant backgrounds, a predominantly Catholic community in the region named Petoskey being a perfect example of this. With communities of Lantino,German,Polish,English, and Natives living and working within the town limits, it was an unusually integrated location for the time period. At the time Amy was born the town itself was populated with several thousand people living in the city limits, a bustling central town and firm backbone farming community, divided the population. Amy was born among the farming community a mere three miles out of downtown in a lightly wooded series of homesteads. When she was born she had six older siblings and a working mother and father. She often described her community as “mixed” stating that you had people “on or two generations off the boat” and mentions that she had friends whose grandparents could not even speak english. Several times during the duration of the interview she mentions the fact that had she not seen pictures of some people in recent years she would not even have remembered their race, due to the constant exposure to other people’s she grew up into. She is of the opinion that her growing up in a community of great ethnic and ethnocultural diversity, comparative to the rest of the country at the time has resulted in her being more accepting of people and less likely to judge upon visual inference.
Growing up on a farm at the time was a physically demanding job, as much as today. Amy herself being expected to work dozens of hours every week around the house and the fields to ensure a functioning stead. She holds this up as an example of the work ethic displayed at the time by her general community , and states that as a teenager she was expected to work several hours a day at her job with the local florist, as well as attend school, and help around the house. She simply states that “No one can outwork a farm kid” stating an opinion that the expectations placed upon her when she was an adolescent endured through the duration of her adult years to still be in practical effect today. She states that a founding facet of her teenage years was the principle of hard work ethic and personal responsibility and that both were an expected and imperative part of her adolescence. Social expectations placed upon her regarded absolute effort and self recognition of mistakes as positive aspects that should be sought after. She describes a period of self responsibility and summarizes with the statement of “if you jumped of a roof with an umbrella, your parents told you it was your fault for doing something stupid, instead of immediatly trying to sue the person whose roof it was...I think thats something we are missing today.” her adolescence was notably marked by this philosophical outlook, with her parents encouraging her to become employed at a young age, and applying pressure for her to become engaged around the house and community,school, and the Church.
The bourdon family was devout Catholic, and for eighteen years Amy was expected to attend church every Sunday morning, and to adhere to Catholic theology. The Catholic Church at that point still publicly condemned and persecuted against a multitude of groups, homosexuals being chief among them. Towards the middle point of her highschool years a close friend of Amy’s publicly came out as homosexual, despite the concurrent stigma that stood against him, he openly and publically stood for himself and his ideals. However, accordingly the church publicly condemned him and the local preacher of the chapel the bourdons attended sentenced him to an eternity of hell fire. Amy states that was a major turning point in her relationship with the church and that she at that moment felt that the church was no longer preached the will of god, rather the perception of man. She was of the opinion that god did not care who it was you loved as long as you loved them, and that this was an irreversible facet of the catholic faith. When she was old enough for her parents to allow she stopped attending the church and chose her friend over her family's god. This was an important moment in her life as she directly stresses. As in addition to removing the massive influence of the church from her life she set a moral standard for the reasoning she would make in the future. She took a stand for something she believed in and allowing it to define the rest of her actions for years afterwards and for the duration of her adolescence. A turning point in her and her family's relationship with one another.
Adolescence is a turning point in most people's lives where they can define the starting conditions of the next decades of their moral decision making. Amy was no exception to this standard, her moral standing and developing as a child and a young adult defined her life ahead of her and the moral reasoning she determined her fate preemptively and set her path before herself. By splitting with the church and her compiled upbringing along with her later experiences she developed from her adolescence into the person she is today.
When I think of this project what I am most proud of my work regarding the creation of my interview write-up. It properly displayed my sentiments and those of the person who I interviewed and in my opinion shed a lot of light on her experience and outlook. I think that the product that I produced is of comparable quality to that of other classmates and therefore the quality is matching to the set parameters of the teacher and the set request regarding the final product. I wrote two and a tenth of a page regarding the subject and I feel that the stuff I wrote was quality with the predetermined request made by the teacher being met and the final result being satisfactory for the needed level. I think that the work I produced properly explored the subject and fully explained the material it set out to define, I also feel the reparations and corrections I made to the document at later points in its development improved the overall quality of the product and increased the satisfaction one receives from reading it. In particular my corrections regarding the grammar and sentence structure resulted in what I consider a proper final product displaying my knowledge, and my interviewees statements in a graceful and education way, that laid bare the finer details of my material.
One area of my work that I could improve my persons portrait, I think that while it does suffice to show the face and bearing I feel that the lighting and direction could be better elected and produced. The image is passable and shows all that it needs to be the position that the subject sits in is far from proper in displaying the final message of the write up and the lighting behind the figure is improper in displaying the figure properly and shows to much of her shadow to be maximum quality, furthermore her clothing is to obscure to carry the proper message. If I could redo that then I would first and foremost work on the lighting by applying a more direct and powerful light source on the central figure rather than a weak side light. I also would work on her position by moving her to side facing the central camera with a head turn instead of a central facing position as it is overbearing. I would also have had her lie backwards instead of leaning forwards as it would look more relaxed instead of excitable or anxious. Finally I would redo the pictures more accordingly to her face with greater focus on the lighting and her facial expression.
The most important thing I learned during the duration of this project was about the biochemistry of adolescence as that in any hypothetical situation might actually be slightly useful. I feel that this is important because the biochemistry is a far more tangible form of information collected from this project and I feel it is more applicable than other forms of information regarding day to day use. That is because it is a quantifiable piece of data and therefore more useful in my mind than the less quantitative and more qualitative evidences and theories applied in this class.I feel that this is more useful and therefore more important by virtue of practical use.
This project was long and unimportant with no real material worth learning, and no real quantitative data. None of the material provided was valid or relevant and all of it was subjective and illogical. I feel that the project did not advance any valid point and did not teach me anything worth my time or energy. However I did manage to produce a final product that met the set parameters and managed to display the information it set out to properly display. Thus I leave with no comment regarding the material of the unit, and only would like to mention the product and the quality of my final results and refer to that as proof of my understanding of the subject and my effort towards the material. And furthermore display them as proper representations of my own personal effort and ability, in visual design and creative writing.
Model United Nations

Reflection:
Over the duration of the project I produced several research essays and work sheets revolving around the Republic of Cuba and its position to the venezuelan regime. So when it came time to present my speech and position as the cuban government I felt well prepared in regards to the cuban outlook on the issue, when the time came to present our ideas in the debate I would say that I was capable of doing so in a matter that was satisfactory for the required parameters. I would say the preparations that I undertook were equivalent to the amount of forethought required. I would say that my development in this project is comparative to my advanced research into the perspective and goals of cuba, singularly linked in an integral relationship I would say that my only growth that I can recollect would be my understanding of the functions of the cuban people and government. I would reflect upon the conference and the preparation leading to the conference as a positive experience, however I feel that my own performance could have been improved in regards to snappy comebacks and total presentation. I feel that the conference itself could have been improved by the removal of certain roadblocks towards efficiency. These being the amount of time devoted to caucuses and the amount of time each person was allowed to speak for, as I feel both of these quantities were excessive. Finally to finish on a high note I would like to commend Madam Lori Fisher, for her ability in maintaining an geral aura of professionalism. Overall, I would recommend the project for the next generation of sophomore students.
Project Description:
The model UN project was a several week project based around the simulation of the United Nations of Earth, an international organization devoted to peacekeeping and preservation of human rights. We assumed the role of civil representatives of various nations and researched out country in extensive depth to ensure comprehensive understanding of their international positions. We then prepared speeches and presentations for the conference that would further the interests of our nation and provide a favorable outcome from UN resources. This reached its pinnacle at a public forum and debate where we as representatives of our countries gave speeches and voted as UN members in an attempt to further our country's goals. We presented our countries position independent of our own outlooks or views on the issue.
Nuclear Proliferation
The Second issue we addressed as the model United Nations was the concept of nuclear proliferation. In simplicity we discussed the legality and morality of nuclear weapons in the modern world. In particular the positions of individual nations regarding the use and distribution of nuclear weapons. Considering the threat that nuclear weapons provide to civilized human life and the biosphere of earth. Thus the primary focus of the conference was the disarmament of nations that currently posses nuclear weapons. And preventing the nations who currently own nuclear weapons from withdrawing from existing nuclear treaties. Including the proposal of further treaties to protect international security and integrity.

UPHOLDING NUCLEAR SECURITY AND NON-PROLIFERATION
The General Assembly
Recalling the existing number of nuclear armaments as being over five thousand, and significantly more than necessary to obliterate existing human civilization, and perhaps even human life,
Referencing the previous and failed attempts to completely disarm all currently nuclear armed countries,
Noting that the previous treaties are all either disregarded or enforced by the United Nations against the larger and more prominent nations,
Acknowledging the existing nuclear arsenals and the likelihood of complete nuclear disarmament as being next to impossible,
Refuting any proposed resolutions regarding the disarmament of any nation, or dissolution of any existing nuclear capable nation,
1.Urging that the United Nations ensure the safety and security of existing nuclear arsenals with regular and frequent inspections of existing weapons:
-
Allowing nations to maintain secrecy of arsenals location via misdirection and sensory deprivation
2.Requesting that further sanctions and legal repercussions be put into place opposing any anti treatise activity, and further punishing any nation failing to meet safety and security standards;
3.Inferring the desire of every nuclear capable nation to ensure their arsenals functionality, and the safety of their citizens and their nation's infrastructure;
-
Allowing the United Nations to establish standardized ratings of safety for nuclear weapons to uphold to nuclear capable countries
-
Placing additional restrictions on the maintenance of nuclear weapons in order to prevent modernization
4.Authorizing the development of new nuclear containment methods to ensure the safety of nuclear weapons;
5.Reccomending further legal ramifications for the development of nuclear weapons to nations that are not currently possessive:
-
Full trade and commercial embargoes until nuclear development ceases
-
Potential grounding for full security council rescue and military operations in the offending country
6.Encouraging further publicization of the nuclear proliferation of countries that comply with underlined nuclear treaties and agreements as opposed to nations that fail to do so;
Advising the United Nations to consider the proposed resolution and take into account the aforementioned amendments as well as any that may be provided by the diversely opinionated denizens of the united nations.
La Republica de Cuba
Zane Bourdon
The Republic of Cuba find the quantity and strategic distribution of nuclear arms appalling and dangerous, for the safety of the average citizen, to the political order of the global community, and to the very concept of civilization and humanity itself.
Since the inception of nuclear weaponry towards the end of the second world war nuclear armaments have been a constant threat to the established world order and human lives everywhere. The nation of Cuba has directly faced the threat of nuclear attack during the now infamous incident lovingly called The Cuban Missile Crisis. In the interim years from that point Cuba has been, like every other politically aligned nation under constant threat of complete nuclear annihilation. Currently in existence are over six thousand nuclear bombs, which alone are capable of completely destroying human civilization as we know it “100 nuclear warheads is adequate for nuclear deterrence in the worst case scenario, while using more than 100 nuclear weapons by any aggressor nation even with optimistic assumptions (including no retaliation) would cause unacceptable damage to their own society,”. ( “This Is How Many Nukes It Would Take to Destroy Society.” 2018/06/15 New York Post ) This with the right conditions could be a catastrophic error if ever put into a position of nuclear engagement, one that could potentially spell the destruction of humanity itself. The increasing global tensions between the esteemable nations of Russia and the United States are continuously threatening nuclear obliteration, for the entirety of the civilized world, and simply actions must be taken in order to ensure the livelihoods and security of countless civilians. One that ensures that no nuclear weapons are distributed and that the existing nuclear arsenals are secured or destroyed.
The solution that The People's Republic of Cuba would like to suggest to the esteemable United Nations, is simply that while the destruction of existing arsenals is politically impossible in the current landscape, the resistance of proliferation and distribution is attainable and reasonable for all respective nations. Simply we here within the Ministry of Internal Affairs propose that actions must be taken to ensure the security of existing nuclear arsenals, and to prevent trouble groups from acquiring nuclear armaments. We propose further sanctions and prohibitions against nations that fail to secure their nuclear materials and weapons, including radioactive materials and fission supplies. We also propose the complete UN accounting of all nuclear funding and existing nuclear programs as well as all existing nuclear supplies to ensure that no conflicts of interest are maintained. I.e the united nations sends inspectors to ensure the safety and security of all existing nuclear supplies, failure by any nation to allow such inspectors to conduct their operations should serve as the baseline conditions for embargos, simple stated the act of refusing nuclear safety and security inspection is a de facto act of opposition to the international community, and thus deserving of a multitude of retaliatory and responsive actions from the assembled united nations council, similar to the action taken against the militant state or Iraq pre american invasion recently having been removed “Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1518 (2003) approved the removal of the following entities from its List of Individuals and Entities subject to the assets freeze set out by…” (UnitedNations, United Nations, 8 Jan. 2019,) In totality the security of nuclear arsenals should be maintained and assured to allow all nations if nothing else the peace of mind regarding the security of existing nuclear arsenals.
In conclusion while the republic of cuba does not reasonably assume that the nations of the world who are currently in possession of nuclear armaments would be willing to give them up.
(Macias, Amanda M. “There Are about 14,500 Nuclear Weapons in the World. Here Are the Countries That Have Them.”) The Ministry of Internal affairs sees the proliferation and distribution of nuclear arms as a direct threat to every developed nation and the human race as a species. The Republic of Cuba appeals to the United Nations and requests that further measures be taken to protect the integrity of existing nuclear arms and to accelerate the rate at which additional nuclear arms are tested and produced.
